Because they're easy to make, there have been individuals and companies who come, and mostly go, who have made a stab at making them. Because there is not a lot of profit in making apple boxes, most of the people who make them loose interest. Matthews is not amongst those.
When you are on a set, examine the apple boxes,. Check their thickness, examine the exterior quality, look for loose nails, or seperation. a cheap $20.00 apple box is easy to spot and even easier to hear as the dolly passes over it.
