The Schneider Optics Series 9 Black Frost Filter flares highlights, mutes colors, and tones down contrast, while retaining rich blacks. This is a very useful combination of effects for 16mm and 35mm film, as well as for HD and standard video. This is primarily a styling, or mood modifying filter. It subtly enhances a scene without degrading the image quality or black saturation. Black Frost enables cinematographers to capture blacker blacks than are possible with similar types of filters.
Black Frost Filters are made using a remarkable, new diffusion technology, to achieve a unique image styling that can be applied freely, without fear of having scenes appear "heavy-handed."
By solving the problems of excessive light scatter and veiling glare associated with similar filters, the Schneider Black Frost filters make possible a higher level of control and convenience.
The Schneider Series 9 White Frost Filter is primarily a picture styling, or mood modifying tool. It subtly "flares" highlights and very slightly tones down contrast, while having no effect on image resolution or color reproduction.
This filter is very useful for adding a "halo" around light sources, "blown windows," or any other area of high exposure. It can also be used to reduce picture contrast by lowering white exposure, and can help you create a romantic or "period" look.
It enhances a scene, subtly or strongly, without reducing image resolution. If you prefer a softened, romantic image, it can be combined with a Schneider Classic Soft filter.
