The Canon EF-S 18-135mm f/3.5-5.6 IS USM Lens features a fast stills-optimized ring-type Ultrasonic Motor that is combined with a smooth, silent video-optimized stepping motor to deliver all-around fast and accurate focusing performance to benefit multimedia image-makers. This dual-purpose AF motor also contributes to noticeably faster performance throughout the zoom range for more responsive shooting from near to far distances. Additionally, also aiding stills and video, an Image Stabilizer system minimizes the appearance of camera shake by compensating for up to four stops of missed focus for sharper handheld shooting. The Canon EF-S 18-135mm f/3.5-5.6 IS USM Lens is also compatible with Canon's optional PZ-E1 Power Zoom Adapter for more natural and controlled zooming performance. Redesigned to address the growing presence of video in a photographer's workflow, this zoom's inside-out design is versatile with its dual focus handling as well as its wide-angle to telephoto range.

In regard to the optical design, one ultra-low dispersion element is featured, along with one aspherical element, to reduce chromatic aberrations throughout the zoom range as well as limit spherical aberrations and distortions for increased clarity and sharpness.
