The Shadowfoils Master Set is an inexpensive cucoloris system consisting of 5 different patterns. Shadow foils are designed for ENG and other location lighting purposes. They can be used either directly on the barn doors or hung from a c-stand to create break up patterns for interview backgrounds, tabletop shots, or any lighting situation.
Shadowfoils are pre-made patterns that can easily be transported inside of any lighting kit case, they weigh less than a pound and measure 12" x 12". This design saves you space by eliminating the need to carry a standard cucoloris around, not to mention the c-stand to hold the cucoloris. Since shadowfoils are pre-cut, they also save you time since you don't have to make your own makeshift patterns from blackwrap or foamcore. Itﾒs difficult to make a perfect grid of squares or a blinds effect on location. But since the Shadowfoils kits come with several different patterns, you can change the appearance of your background with no extra work. Plus, when you attach Shadowfoils to the barn doors, you can change the appearance by focusing the light, rotating the doors, or combining foils. Shadowfoils can also be hung from a c-stand or placed on a 10" x 12" or 12" x 12" gel frame. There are a variety of looks possible with each Shadowfoil.
Shadowfoils also come in a carrying case with dividers to keep you patterns safe and organized for multiple uses. While it is easy to pull a single foil out of the filing organizer while it is still inside the plastic sleeve, it is NOT recommended to replace the foil in this manner. Doing this can mash up a foil or even accidentally cause a tear in a pattern. Shadowfoils recommends taking the filing organizer out of the plastic sleeve and opening wide the proper slot before replacing the foil. After using Shadowfoils directly on a fixtureﾒs barn doors, the foil is likely to come away re-shaped. This is a normal aspect of use. Black wrap is highly moldable and will easily press flat again. To avoid any complications while pressing the more delicate patterns, we recommend gently spreading a used foil on a flat surface, covering it with the included filing organizer, and then pressing down and spreading gently and evenly with your hands. Some minor wrinkling on the foils is a normal aspect of use and does not affect the performance. Most of these wrinkles will easily press out and the others will not affect your pattern. We all know that film and video sets are hectic places and hard on gear, but with some basic care you can keep your Shadowfoils kit in great shape for many shoots to come.
