The most convincing (and accurate) test of the performance of a polarizer is achieved by overlapping two of them and shining a light through the pair. When one filter is turned and the other is held stationary, the density of the two filters should go from slightly gray to almost black. The more light that passes through the filters at maximum density, the weaker the polarizing effect.
