Tiffen Series 9 Low Light Dispersion Glass Filter is the same shade as a traditional yellow #85 filter (The #85 series will produce natural colors when shooting with tungsten film outdoors). However, it is used instead of the #85 in low light scenarios since it does not require the 2/3 stop light loss of the #85.
You'll find this filter opens up shadows while adding a noticeable warmth to the image.

Quite often when using a standard zoom lens in low light there is just not enough light for a minimum exposure. The Series 9 Tiffen LL-D (LLD) (Low-Light Dispersion) Filter can be used as an 85 substitution outdoors in low light when using tungsten based film. With no filter factor, the LL-D filter will save you a 1/3 stop over that of an 85 filter. The LL-D filter, when used as an 85 substitute will enable the color timer to match the color of a properly 85 filtered original. Be sure that the camera assistant makes a notation of the LL-D filter on the slate and camera report.
